Coca Leaf Tea

Coca Tea The Fountain of Youth

November 18, 2019 By Coca Tea Express 8 Comments

Coca Tea The Fountain of Youth

Is coca tea the fountain of youth? Stick around because you are about to find out some fascinating facts about the world famous coca leaf tea.

Throughout history, the coca leaf and the entire coca plant in general has played a huge part in Bolivia, Peru and Colombia.

Coca Tea The Fountain of Youth

Attacks on Medicinal Plant?

Dr Jorge Hurtado explains that coca leaf can be an effective pain-relieving medicine but it is often blamed for all the wrong reasons. While the coca tea plant has been labelled as an evil and dangerous narcotic, there are no medical research papers and doctors that can back these false facts up medically. To demonstrate this in real life, it was discovered that forty years ago, when the Bolivian government tried to reduce and regulate coca tea chewing, it directly proved that workers could not work in the mines.

It clearly proved that during hard and intensive labor, miners heavily rely on chewing coca tea leaves to work in the mines. Coca tea chewing simply boosts energy and keeps the workers awake and alert. By not allowing these workers to chew coca, they could no longer be effective at their job. As a result, their overall production and work ethic took a big hit. By allowing once again for coca tea leaves to be chewed by the Bolivian miners as a daily regimen, these workers managed to stay more productive without becoming addicted to coca leaves.

“If you check the nutritional profile of the coca leaf, you will learn that it contains much more vitamins and minerals than quinoa grains. Coca also has roughly 25% more calcium than dairy milk”, said Hurtado. In Peru and Bolivia, coca tea powder is regarded as a food supplement, just like vitamin powders and tablets in United States and Europe.

There is absolutely no evidence or proof that chewing coca leaf tea powder is addictive. In fact, Bolivia has a large number of alcoholics compared to cocaine addicts. Coca leaves to cocaine is akin to comparing grapes to wine. Coca leaf may contain a small amount of cocaine alkaloids (less than 1%) but it never poses any problems unless hundreds of kilograms of dried coca leaves are chemically processed into cocaine.

Promotes Health & Longevity?

Procaine was discovered in 1949, this is a very similar chemical to the drug cocaine. Procaine was found to contain youth promoting properties, some even dubbed it as the “Fountain of Youth”.

When procaine was given to elderly patients, researchers discovered that it improved the response and condition of their muscles as well as whole body motion. Ana Aslan was the key researcher during discovery of the anti-aging effects of procaine. Soon after, the researchers used coca leaves to improve and boost people’s physical condition, health and their capabilities. Unlike other drugs such as heroin, morphine and cocaine, coca leaf does not cause any dependence or physical addiction.

So is coca tea the fountain of youth? Let’s research further.

What is also interesting is that coca leaf also relieves stomach pain, headaches and migraines.

Many people like to drink coffee after eating a meal, however, this is detrimental to our digestion and stomach health. Coffee has a direct effect on the lower opening passage in the stomach, it has a regulating effect on the passages between the top and bottom of the digestive tract. This causes many problems with digesting food.

Coca leaf tea, however, aids the stomach and promotes healthy digestion.

“I can give you more, a lot more uses for coca leaf as far as health benefits go, but this is still very controversial even if studies proved us right”, concluded Dr Hurtado.

Other Products?

As far as using coca leaf in other household items such as cosmetics, many companies have indeed added coca leaf extracts to soaps, shampoos and skim creams. International tourists can still get into trouble with local and international Customs and Border Control officers. “A friend of mine did not realize she had a coca leaf extract shampoo in her carry on backpack. While going through Bolivia Customs airport security, the police dogs began to look excited as she walked by.

Lucky for my friend, she was not in any big trouble, but they seized the coca leaf shampoo and quiet frankly, it was not the best experience to have while flying.” On another note, coca tea powder has been shown to prevent gum disease and tooth decay, hence why it is also added to certain Peruvian and Bolivian toothpaste.

Conclusion

Calling “Coca Tea The Fountain of Youth” is an extraordinary claim, however, so far all the evidence seems to back up this claim.

As I conclude my research about the history of coca tea uses and it’s impact on Bolivia and Peru, I clearly have realized that coca leaf represents something much bigger and broader here in the Andean region of Bolivia. With so many coca tea leaf products out there on the market, it certainly stimulates the local Bolivian economy.

Even though they have tried to cut down and even stop coca leaf production over the last few decades. it’s great to see the coca tea leaf industry in Bolivia is still very active and only growing larger, ready to expand further.

Coca Leaves For Sports

Coca Leaves For Sports

Coca Leaves For Sports

What are the effects of coca leaves for sports?

A Bolivian University Mayor de San Andres, in combined effort with the Center for Botanical and Ecological Research along with the French Institute of Scientific Research for Development in Cooperation, have created a joint project on a number of important topics.

They state the following:

“When it comes to physiology and muscular exercise, coca chewing does not increase the capacity to do more work, but it does increase work length and tolerance in all individuals.  In regards to the respiratory sensitivity effects, we noted that chewing coca leaves does have a stimulating effect on respiratory centers in the body.”

Coca Leaf Research

In this research on coca leaves for sports, the results may be related to the increase of “catecholamine”, which is typically released after chewing the tea leaves.  What is also interesting to note is that, it was discovered that chewing coca leaves has an effect on hemoglobin and inhibits platelet aggregation inside the body.

The findings in this research on coca leaves for sports state:
– coca leaves produce a moderating effect and slow down consumption of glucose
– coca leaves consumption has little effect on daily food intake
– the leaves are excellent at helping to adapt to high altitude in the mountains

“Most interestingly and crucially, is the increase of respiratory frequency with more oxygen transported into the blood when chewing coca leaves.”

The study reminds us that the highest occurrence of coca leaf chewing happens high up in the Andean mountains. Roughly 75% of people there chew on coca leaf, however, at about 2,000 meters above sea level, there are 20% who frequently use coca. Finally, about 3% chew coca leaves at lower sea level.

Coca Chewing in Peru and Bolivia

The local people of Peru and Bolivia live high up at altitudes of over 4,000 meters above sea level in the mountains, oxygen levels there are scarce. Coca leaves help a person breath easier and acquire more oxygen by stimulating the respiratory system. This helps people in low oxygen environments such as high altitude in Machu Picchu for example.

High altitude illness, which many people suffer from while travelling in Peru and Bolivia, are simply cured with chewing coca leaves or drinking coca tea. When a person is exposed to low levels of oxygen for a lengthy time, the body starts to develop erythrocytosis. This is a blood disease when the body, in an attempt to combat the lack of oxygen, produces high amounts of red blood cells. These extra red blood cells increase the blood viscosity, promote circulatory problems and increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis.

This actual reduction of platelet aggregation found by the medical researchers, explains this other vital aspect which allows life at 4,000 meters high up in the Andes. The lowered amount of red blood cell concentrations in chronic coca leaves chewers was already shown previously in an article titled: “Coca Chewing and Health“.

Coca Lowers Cholesterol

Coca chewing has also been found to lower cholesterol levels in people who chew coca leaves on a regular basis. This is very exciting news because it certainly puts coca leaf as a highly beneficial plant medicine which deserves far more research.

As you can see, by regularly chewing coca tea powder or drinking coca tea, you will gain many health benefits. The ancient people of Peru and Bolivia have known this for over 3000 years.

Coca Tea Energy Booster

October 16, 2019 By Coca Tea Express 14 Comments

Coca Tea Is A Natural Energy Booster 4

Coca Tea Is A Natural Energy Booster 4

Coca Tea Is A Natural Energy Booster. A famous naturalist, physician, meteorologist and the First Minister of Finance of Peru, Hipólito Unanue, said the following: “The coca leaf is the hyper-tonic of Nature”.

It’s widely known that coca tea leaves and powder possess a wide array of vitamins, minerals and naturally occurring alkaloids. They have a health boosting effect by increasing energy levels, brain function and promoting weight loss. Coca leaves have large amounts of bio-available iron, calcium and vitamins such as A (beta carotene) and B. This makes coca tea a highly nutritional and energy promoting supplement food.

Coca Leaf Research

As far as nutrients go in coca leaves, this aspect has been researched in Peru, South America and in United States, particularly at Harvard University. Both studies concluded that coca leaves have a high nutritional profile that provides not only medical but also nutritional values when consumed regularly.

The scientific researchers at Harvard University also went one step further. They compared coca tea leaves with over fifty vegetables found in South America. The results showed that coca tea leaves and powder provide more proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, phosphorus, iron, calcium, vitamin A (beta carotene) and riboflavin than most other South American vegetables. As stated before, coca tea is a natural energy booster.

Past studies performed in Peru, South America by Dr. Carlos Collazos Chiriboga and his team of researchers, demonstrated high levels of
iron, calcium, minerals and other vital vitamins, such as vitamins A and B that are naturally found in coca leaves. (see chart below)

Coca Tea Is A Natural Energy Booster
Research has shown that calcium levels are higher in coca leaves than in dairy milk.
Another fascinating element was discovered also. Those people who chew coca leaves and coca tea powder in the same fashion that ancient Incas did centuries ago, not only do they absorb the natural coca alkaloids, they also get substantial doses of minerals and vitamins.

Regular Consumption Benefits

When consumed naturally either by drinking tea or by chewing, coca leaves release natural alkaloids. One of these alkaloids is cocaine, which is present in tiny amounts (0.3-1%). Cocaine is one of 14 other natural alkaloids that provides energy, pain relief, weight loss and stops high altitude sickness when oxygen levels are low in high mountains. Coca tea has been a very important medicinal plant in the Andes for over 3000 years.

Before you think coca tea equals cocaine, think again. One is natural while the other is human-made. Coca tea leaves are consumed naturally as tea or chewed by mouth with sodium bicarbonate. On the other hand, the drug cocaine which is a highly processed chemical is snorted or smoked for pleasure and has dangerous and addictive properties. Coca Tea as a natural energy booster even is more efficient than coffee.

Whole coca tea powder is a beneficial and health promoting super food. Hipólito Unanue, a famous Peruvian doctor, stated that coca tea is a “super-natural tonic”.

Nutrients

It’s been stated on numerous occasions that coca leaves have a high amount of protein, what must be also understood is that these proteins are not easily digested like other more common vegetable proteins.

Recently, in Peru and Bolivia, coca leaves have been finely powdered to create “coca flour”. Its nutritional profile is exactly the same as found in whole coca leaves. By powdering whole coca leaves, we can much easier assimilate coca tea when drinking, eating or chewing it. It’s also very easy to add coca tea powder (coca leaf flour) to fruit/vegetable juices, herbal teas, breads, cakes, coca candies, coca chocolates and other deserts.

There has been some fine research work done on therapeutic value of coca tea by Dr. Andrew T. Weil. After performing a large number of medical trials, Dr. Andrew T. Weil confirmed that coca leaves are beneficial for treating many gastrointestinal (stomach) conditions. He also added that coca is highly beneficial for weight loss (fat burning) and can aid in physical fitness.

Dr. Andrew T. Weil’s research paper confirms that coca leaves are highly effective as a fast-acting anti-depressant. It’s also effective at regulating carbohydrate levels in the blood and boosts metabolism. What’s more, Dr. Andrew T. Weil pointed out that, when drunk as tea or chewed, coca leaf is not toxic or addictive.

Used For 3000 Years

Drinking coca tea bags and chewing the leaves has been the norm for many centuries in Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. Coca effectively cures stomach aches, head aches and promotes energy. It’s highly effective for altitude sickness as well as the stubborn motion sickness. Coca leaves are even used to predict the future among the locals in Peru. Coca leaf readings are a popular event.

As you can see, coca tea presents many medicinal benefits when consumed as tea or chewed regularly. It promotes weight loss, lowers mental fatigue and stress, boosts well-being and improves the mood. It also has a high nutritional profile that makes it an ideal food supplement rich in protein, fiber, minerals and vitamins, all that is important for a healthy living.

To your health and success,

Alex

Coca Tea Leaf Laws

Coca Tea Leaf Laws

Coca Tea Leaf Laws

Evo Morales, a Bolivian President and highest ranking official is all about discussing the coca tea leaf laws.  He is very is confident of smoothing over the tense relationship with European Union after Bolivia passed new laws increasing the amount of coca plants that are grown in Bolivia.

European Union Coca Leaf

Evo Morales mentioned that he is confident in EU union. He said that things will work out between Bolivia and European leaders as far as coca plant farming goes.

Recently, Bolivia initiated new laws that legally increased how much coca can be grown. It jumped from 12,000 to 22,000 hectares worth of coca plant fields. Bolivia wants to export more coca tea products to the world. These new laws will make it more feasible for Bolivia to export coca tea, coca sweets, coca tea wine and other coca leaf products that people love and enjoy for health and well-being.

It’s been argued that (and Morales’ government agrees) that 18,000 hectares are needed to produce enough coca tea leaves so that Bolivian people can chew coca leaves.

However, a more recent study in 2013, actually started and funded by the European Union, showed that only 14,705 hectares of plantations are needed to satisfy the country’s chewing legal demand.

Also, a 1961 UN ruling implies that coca plants and their by-products such as coca tea, coca sweets and coca wine can’t be legally exported if they have active coca alkaloids. This is because these coca plant alkaloids are an important part of cocaine manufacturing. This is a very outdated rule which has been largely ignored by most coca tea farmers in Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. Hence why you can buy coca tea leaves online via our Coca Tea Express store.

Some people however, are not so easily persuaded.

Coca Leaf Issues

One of the European Union’s chancellors in Bolivia, a man from Spain, León de la Torre Krais, insisted that increasing coca tea leaf production might cause problems.

He claimed that there will be a spike in illicit cocaine manufacturing that will flood Europe, United States and Asia other countries. “Drug trafficking will increase…” said León de la Torre Krais

Evo Morales said that while he acknowledges Spain’s concerns about growing more coca tea plantations, he also made it clear that Bolivia has the right to define it’s own laws in it’s own country.

Morales states that European leaders are welcome to discuss any concerns they have with the new coca leaf laws. There is an official meeting being set up in La Paz, Bolivia later this year.

“A lot will be at stake discussing the fine details regarding the coca tea plantations and increasing their presence in Bolivia”, said Evo Morales.

At the same time, Bolivia’s Interior Minister, a man by the name of Carlos Romero, is visiting Vienna, Austria where he is explainging the strategy behind the new coca tea leaf laws. Also being discussed is how Bolivia plans to combat the illicit drug trade.

Bolivian Coca Tea

Currently, Bolivia is the third biggest cocaine producer in the world, after Colombia and Peru in South America.

While cocaine is a dangerous drug should be avoided, coca tea is a very healthy, natural product that’s been enjoyed by South Americans for over 3000 years. The ancient Inkas have chewed coca tea and drunk it as tea without any ill effects, quiet the contrary, it helps to energize the body and mind, aids weight loss, stimulates the mind and stops the dreaded high altitude sickness.

Coca Tea in Italy

September 30, 2019 By Coca Tea Express 12 Comments

coca tea in Italy

coca tea in Italy

There has been some hype about coca tea in Italy. A news story broke out in December 2015 about “cocaine tea being available in Italian shops”.

Let’s take a look at this coca tea story in the Italian media.

Cocaine in Italy?

Apparently, various shops, restaurants and coffee shops were selling “cocaine tea” aka coca tea for many years in Italy. The funniest part is that they did not even apparently know this.

Italian authorities and media were told that a bus driver tested positive for cocaine, an illicit drug after a random drug test at work.

The bus driver, had a 10-year clean driving at the Genovese transport company where he was employed at the time, was shocked by the test results and vehemently denied any drug-taking when he complained to the company’s doctor.

When further questioned about taking cocaine, the bus driver mentioned that he had drank a cup of “delisse coca tea”. Coca tea in Italy is a herbal tea that comes from Peru, Colombia and Bolivia. The man said he purchased it from a food shop in central Genoa in Italy.

The driver actually mentioned that he enjoyed the brew as it made him feel more alert at the wheel while driving.

The Coca Test

To see if this was all true, the company’s doctor asked Roberto (the driver) to bring in some coca tea bags, as he wanted to dry the coca tea drink himself. A full analysis I should say…

The next day, the doctor tested positive for the drug cocaine. This was a false positive test because he consumed coca tea. The same doctor contacted the Italian food authorities, and an investigation into coca tea in Italy was launched.

Here the article states the following: “Tests of the Delisse coca tea bags showed that this tea’s main ingredients were “cocaine leaves” and they had small amounts of the active ingredient of the illicit drug, cocaine hydrochloride.”

As ridiculous as this sounds, this was an actual Italian article on coca tea bags aka “cocaine tea”.

Authorities Stumped

The article goes on to claim that no suspicious activity was detected by the shop, it was in fact legitimately buying the herbal coca tea bags from a Peruvian wholesaler located in Milan for many years.

This case has surprised Italian Customs for being undetected at the border for many years.

As funny as this story sounds, this was in fact a true event.

As you can see, coca tea bags were available for sale in Italy for many years without any people suffering side effects or complaining to the police.

Coca tea is a natural substance that is actually very healthy for human consumption. It has been drunk as tea and chewed by the ancient people or Peru and Bolivia for over 3000 years. Even to this day, you will find coca leaves for sale across many shops and markets in Peru and Bolivia.
